Stefan Pop, tenore<\/span><\/p>\n

Born in Bistrita, Romania, and having a strong musical background after studying the violin for twelve years, Stefan Pop graduated the \u201cGheorghe Dima\u201d Music Academy (the canto department) in Cluj Napoca.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After winning most of the national singing competitions, in 2008, at 21, he made his debut as Nemorino in \u201cL\u2019elisir d\u2019Amore\u201d at the National Opera in Timisoara and in \u201cIl Matrimonio Segretto\u201d at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca. In March 2009 he was invited to perform at the world premiere of \u201cColinda balada op. 46<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2033<\/span><\/span> by Gyorgy Kurtag together with Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra from Timisoara.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His spectacular international debut came when he was only 22, in December 2009, as Alfredo in \u201cLa Traviata\u201d at Teatro dell\u2019Opera di Roma in the famous production staged by Franco Zeffirelli. Soon it followed the debut at the Greek National Opera, also in \u201cLa Traviata\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At 23, in 2010, he won two of the most important international vocal competitions just seven days apart, on two different continents: Operalia, hosted by Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the careful guidance of Maestro Placido Domingo, where he was of the few competitors in the entire history of the contest who won two prizes in the same evening, the first prize and the auditorium prize; and the 6th International Music Competition in Seoul, where he won the first prize.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After winning Operalia, Stefan Pop made his debut at Teatro Verdi Triste (2010) as Nemorino in \u201cL\u2019elisir d\u2019amore\u201d and at Hamburg State Opera in 2011 and sung his first Elvino in \u201cLa Sonnambula\u201d at Vienna State Opera under Evelino Pido\u2019s baton in the same year. Later that year he also made his debut at Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich as Cassio in Verdi\u2019s \u201cOtello\u201d under Daniele Gatti\u2019s baton and in Seoul as Il Duca di Mantova in \u201cRigoletto\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2012 Stefan Pop made his first appearance on the stage of Opera de Paris as Il Duca di Mantova in \u201cRigoletto\u201d. In December 2012 he made his debut at Royal Opera House in London, performing Nemorino in \u201cL\u2019Elisir d\u2019Amore\u201d.
\nAlso in 2012 he was invited by Placido Domingo to perform at his \u201cOperalia winners Gala\u201d at the Royal Opera House in London. \u201cThe young Romanian also managed to sound fresh and engaging in La Donna \u00e9 Mobile, his affable perma-smile perfectly reflecting the banality of this hackneyed showstopper.\u201d noted the Evening Standard.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2011 and 2012, Stefan Pop was guest in four of Angela Gheorghiu\u2019s concerts in the Far East (Seoul and Shanghai) and Middle East (Oman) very well received by the audience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2013 brought the debut at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow as Alfredo in \u201cLa Traviata\u201d and also the debut in the title role of \u201cFaust\u201d at the National Opera in Bucharest. It was a very successful performance soon followed by other \u201cFaust\u201d performances at Opera Rijeka (Croatia, March 2014) and Hong Kong Cultural Center (May 2014).
\nAlso in 2013, Stefan Pop was invited by Placido Domingo to perform together in the Verdi-Wagner Gala at the Arena di Verona under Daniel Oren\u2019s baton.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In June 2014 he made his debut as Rodolfo in the concert version of \u201cLa Boheme\u201d at Salle Pleyel in Paris, alongside Patrizia Cioffi. Later on, in August 2014, he also made a debut, as the Italian singer in \u201cDer Rosenkavalier\u201d at the renowned Salzburg Festival, performance that is now available on DVD.
\nAlso in 2014 he sung in \u201cLa Traviata\u201d at Opera Menorca together with Leo Nucci and Norah Amselem. \u201cWhat impresses in Pop\u2019s is his beautiful singing line accompanied by phrasing worthy of the greatest\u201d wrote the critics after the first performance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2015, Stefan Pop made the debut in \u201cDon Giovanni\u201d at Opera Bastille, Paris, alongside a great cast under Alain Altinoglu\u2019s baton. He took part in two major music festivals, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland, as Don Ottavio in \u201cDon Giovanni\u201d, together with Tatiana Lisnic and Erwin Schrott; and the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest, Romania, in an open air concert conducted by David Crescenzi.
\nIn November 2015 he was offered the title of honorary citizen of his home town, Bistrita.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Stefan Pop performed alongside some of the most important opera singers: Angela Gheorghiu, Patrizia Ciofi, Mariella Devia, Edita Gruberova, Elena Mosuc, Krassimira Stoyanova, Tatiana Lisnic, Sonya Yoncheva, Nino Machaidze, Ailyn Perez, Placido Domingo, Leo Nucci, Jose Cura, Thomas Hampson, Erwin Schrott, under the baton of Evelino Pid\u00f2, Andrea Battistoni, Daniele Gatti, Simone Young, Fabio Luisi, Antonio Pappano, Paolo Longo, Alain Antinoglu, Pablo Heras-Casado, Antonino Fogliani, Nello Santi and Luciano di Martino among others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His future engagements include \u201cFaust\u201d (Oviedo Opera), \u201cNorma\u201d (Teatro Real Madrid), \u201cRigoletto\u201d (Hannover), \u201cLa Traviata\u201d (Teatro Carlo Felice Genova), \u201cLa Boheme\u201d (Teatro Regio di Parma).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
