THE PARADOX OF LONELINESS: OVERCOMING A SENSE OF DEMEURANCE

Loneliness is therefore not the lack of someone’s physical presence. And the process of grieving is quite a complicated one, which is very individual and often mistaken for something it is not. It is generally a notion that being lonely is caused by being alone but contrary to this, the worst form of loneliness is being lonely in a crowd. This detachment underlines that we are but humans, and why we require identity, acknowledgement and companionship.

In its true sense, loneliness in a crowd holds definition of a state of social exclusion that seems to be way beyond the physical context. It speaks of the need that resides deeply within the human soul—need for acceptance, for compassion and for fondness. Even if you are accompanied with friends, families, and co-workers, still you will feel lonely if you do not have close and intimate relationships with them. Such emotional detachment only points to one truth: one may search for solace in isolation; but the bitterest loneliness is born of lack of emotional communion even in the crowd.

The role of human beings in relation to the necessity of social well-being or affection.

Human is a social animal. From the time we are born we strive for attachment not only for the need to survive but for the need to have our attachments needs met. The experience of being lonely in a crowd indicates a gap between people’s sociological reality and their subjective experiences. This is epitomized by the type of loneliness that stems from feeling invisible, and unheard by people around, and this kind of loneliness puts to question our very existence.

This kind of loneliness poses a great challenge to individuals in as much as relating to other people is concerned. The problem is not being lonely – the problem is being lonely in a world full of people and relationships with are others don’t see us, understand us, or acknowledge the real us. The ‘voice’ of loneliness appears when we are with people, but one can remain all alone as if no one can hear or see a man’s pain.

Emotional Intelligence: Its Definition, Importance and its Use

It is not only one’s personal deficiency that makes one feel lonely despite the presence of people around but also a failure of society or people around one to display elementary emotions intelligence. Emotional intelligence enables us to understand and appreciate or even know and relate with people at a deeper level. It allows us to also deal with human behavior another thing that it has helped with is relating to counterpart. Indeed, it’s a known fact that when people lack emotional intelligence, they experience poor communication, thus, a lack of connection with people.

This, in turn, means that even when there are many people around us, we may not necessarily feel the need of the company of at least one other person. This means that when people are merely physically close to one another, there is no chance for them to find that connection is indeed not enough to make people close, since often the gap resulting from the lack of genuine communication and comprehension cannot be crossed by simply being in the same room. This is why one can feel deeply lonely in company because in fact it isn’t the bodies proximity which counts, but emotional proximity.

The distinguishing of solitude and loneliness has been described as follows:

While those two terms often may seem identical, there is a certain difference between being alone and being lonely. In the right sense, solitude may be an enriching way of experiencing the environment since there are times when quiet is golden. It makes it possible for us to pause, to rest, and to rejuvenate, within one’s own self. Here, loneliness – and especially when experienced in the company of the others – is tiring emotionally. The difference is in terms of the feelings that we harbour concerning such matters. This is the reason why solitude is more desirable than loneliness, which is forced upon people. Being alone enables one to be comfortable with him or herself, but being alone while surrounded by people defines the desire of having companionship even where none exists.

In the case of loneliness organizations offer a chance to find answers, harmony and comfort. In loneliness, one tends, for instance, to get into a group with expectations of companionship only to find that some of the people are as lonely as you are missing the company that is not there. It translates to the need man has not only to be touched but to be touchable, to have contact that is real not virtual or imposed.

Emotional Loneliness: This lecture is titled “The Hidden Struggle,”

Emotional loneliness is possibly the most tiring type of loneliness that anyone can experience. This is not about the amount of people around us that we are having issues connecting with or not connecting with at all. In our day to day lives, if we do not find genuine friends to share our feelings with, our emotional outlet does not get replenished, which makes us feel lonely.

This sort of loneliness can occur in any sphere of life; at the workplace, in friendships, in a family. It hints on emotional vacuum, where even though there are people in ones society, there is no warm embrace or someone who understands one’s predicament. That is what makes loneliness in a crowd so tiring and frustrating because all those people around are indifferent to everything that happens. Instead of enhancing our feeling of connectedness, it intensifies our feeling of loneliness, as it constantly reminds of relations we have lost.

Of course, what all these imply is the importance of real friendships that one can never easily bid farewell.

This has the paradox of loneliness, which gives a true value to real friends. In other words, ordinary interpersonal contacts or interactions, often referred to as exogamic relationships that are shared on the premise of convenience or on the basis of barter of some material benefits, are incapable of satisfying the need for companionship that loneliness helps to evoke. Whereas, real friendships provide the emotional support. Besides mere physical presence, they give one the feeling of belonging and understanding as well as support.

Without these real connections we can be lonely even being in the company of many people at a funeral, party or work place. It will be useful to have measured interactions that do not only occupy the space we live in but are also meaningful. These are the authentic relationships that add value to life and make us feel connected in the society that many a times feels lonely.

Conclusion

The following paradox of loneliness, which translates to being lonely in a throng of people, make people understand and appreciate the importance of interpersonal relationships and connections. Though it’s desirable to have other people around; it is more desirable to be noticed, recognized, and appreciated. The type of loneliness that one gets when emotionally lonely is one of the worst painful feelings one can undergo and the only way to deal with it is through the acquisition of meaningful relationships that enrich the soul. If we do not have these connections we may remain lonely even if we are with people, thus making it even harder to seek internal calm.

In the modern world with screen-based interactions boasting of their importance more than heartfelt connections, the complicated task is to create healthy connections that would provide the emotional support and recognition that we need. Then we can truly connect the loneliness with that true companionship that provides not only the sustenance but the nourishment of a person and his soul as well.

*Poet, Writer, Artist and Academician specialized in Human behavior and Holistic well-being

IL PARADOSSO DELLA SOLITUDINE: SENTIRSI SOLI TRA LA FOLLA Dr. Krishan Chand Sethi * La solitudine non è semplicemente l’assenza […]

[4,18,10

post-61879","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cultura","category-english","category-italiano
["GET
