\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 Dave Monaco<\/strong> is not yet thirty but has already been hailed as a \u201ctenor with exquisite natural vocality but impetuous elegance\u201d<\/em>. He is one of the most talented singers of the Belcanto repertoire, particularly valued for his interpretations of Rossini\u2019s work. As a result, many of his 2025 engagements feature Rossini operas, starting with a brand-new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia<\/em><\/strong><\/a> at the Op\u00e9ra Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur<\/strong> directed by Beno\u00eet Benichou<\/strong> and conducted by Lucie Leguay<\/strong>. Dave will also make his house debut with this production, taking the stage on 2, 4, 6 <\/strong>and 8 May<\/strong>.

\u00abI made my principal debut as Count Almaviva in 2018. I came back to the role in 2023 and since then it’s given me great satisfaction and will continue to do so, with my debut at Teatro La Fenice last February and the opportunity to perform for the first time in another continent, in Toronto next year. So it has a permanent place in my repertoire and, with this new production in Nice (a delightful theatre where I’m making my house debut!), I’ll have performed it over twenty times. It’s an unusual role: from a vocal perspective, it has a medium tessitura and coloraturas which are closer to Rossini’s serious operas than his comic ones. In fact, it was composed for Garcia, a baritenor. From a theatrical perspective too, the Count is an ambiguous character. Behind his apparent levity lies an elegance that has to be revealed. If ‘Ecco ridente in cielo’ is a serenade, almost music within the music, it’s with ‘Cessa di pi\u00f9 resistere’ that the Count truly emerges as a character. Rossini gives us the opportunity to transform an initially comic character into a serious figure, worthy of the style of one of Spain’s great. Depending on whether or not this aria is performed, the Count changes totally in nature. In this staging by Beno\u00eet B\u00e9nichou, the reference is clear: a Count more like the one in Le <\/em>Nozze di Figaro:<\/em> noble, clear-headed, open-eyed. And the final aria is there. This, for me, is the perfect balance between comic and serious Rossini. It’s a role full of surprises, thanks to the many details that come to light each time.\u00bb \u2013 said the tenor from Nice<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf9\u00a0<\/strong>Dave Monaco<\/strong>, non ancora trentenne e gi\u00e0 accreditato come\u00a0\u00abtenore di fine natura vocale ma di impetuosa eleganza\u00bb<\/em>, \u00e8 uno dei pi\u00f9 talentuosi interpreti del repertorio belcantistico, particolarmente richiesto in quello rossiniano.\u00a0Per questo nel suo 2025 spiccano tante opere di Rossini, con la tappa pi\u00f9 imminente rappresentata dalla nuova produzione del\u00a0Barbiere di Siviglia<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0firmata dal regista\u00a0Beno\u00eet Benichou<\/strong>\u00a0e diretta da\u00a0Lucie Leguay<\/strong>, all\u2019Op\u00e9ra Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur<\/strong>. Dave, che nell\u2019occasione far\u00e0 anche il debutto di teatro, canter\u00e0 il\u00a02, 4, 6\u00a0<\/strong>e\u00a08 maggio<\/strong>.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>

\u00abCon il Conte d\u2019Almaviva ho fatto il mio debutto come protagonista nel 2018. L\u2019ho ripreso nel 2023 e da allora mi ha dato e dar\u00e0 tante soddisfazioni, come quella di debuttare al Teatro La Fenice lo scorso febbraio e la possibilit\u00e0 di esibirmi per la prima volta oltreoceano, a Toronto, il prossimo anno. Quindi \u00e8 anche una costante nel mio repertorio e, con quelle di questa nuova produzione a Nizza (teatro incantevole nel quale debutto!), supero le venti recite. \u00c8 un ruolo particolare: vocalmente ha una tessitura centrale e colorature pi\u00f9 vicine al Rossini serio che a quello buffo. Non a caso fu scritto per Garc\u00eda, un baritenore. Anche scenicamente il Conte \u00e8 un personaggio ambiguo, dietro la leggerezza iniziale c\u2019\u00e8 un\u2019eleganza che va scoperta. Se \u201cEcco ridente in cielo\u201d \u00e8 una serenata, quasi musica nella musica, \u00e8 con \u201cCessa di pi\u00f9 resistere\u201d che il personaggio del Conte esce davvero fuori. Rossini ci regala la possibilit\u00e0 di trasformare un personaggio prima solo buffo in una figura anche seria, degna dello stile di un grande di Spagna. A seconda che l\u2019aria venga eseguita o meno, il Conte cambia completamente volto. In questa regia di Beno\u00eet B\u00e9nichou, il riferimento \u00e8 chiaro: un Conte pi\u00f9 vicino a quello delle\u00a0Nozze di Figaro<\/em>, nobile, lucido, consapevole. E l\u2019aria finale c\u2019\u00e8. Per me \u00e8 un equilibrio perfetto tra il Rossini buffo e il Rossini serio. \u00c8 una parte che sorprende sempre, per la quantit\u00e0 di dettagli che emergono ogni volta\u00bb\u00a0\u2013 ha dichiarato il tenore da Nizza.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>
