DONIZETTI’S LAST QUEEN<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
My debut as Elisabetta in <\/em><\/strong>Roberto Devereux<\/em><\/strong>Completing the Tudor Trilogy in Valencia<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
After Anna Bolena<\/em> and Maria Stuarda<\/em> I\u2019m moving \u201cstraight on\u201d to Queen Elizabeth I, on whose life Donizetti, who was fascinated by the history of England, based three operas, the last of which, despite being entitled Roberto Devereux<\/em><\/strong>, has as its central figure the \u201cvirgin Queen\u201d. I\u2019ve had the honour of being able to plan my debut in all three operas with Palau de les Arts, Valencia<\/strong> and am grateful for this opportunity, which in a just few years has allowed me to engage with such theatrically and vocally interesting characters, and through them to follow the composer\u2019s creative evolution. Here in Devereux <\/em>it takes the form of rigorous orchestral composition and the tragic, psychologically multi-faceted figure Elisabetta<\/strong>, giving this great Donizetti character the fury of offended regality, but also more feminine sentiments such as the mind-obfuscating, heart-rending jealousy that resolves into extreme vocal virtuosity. It is this tragic force that makes this Elisabetta by Cammarano and Donizetti such a tormented, contradictory woman, powerful in the eyes of society but fragile at heart.

The stage director for this third Tudor opera is again Jetske Mijnssen<\/strong>, with Francesco Lanzillotta<\/strong> conducting the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana prepared by Jordi Blanch Tordera<\/strong> and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.
