14, 22, 30 November | Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo<\/strong>\"\"Riccardo Frizza \u00a9 <\/strong>Gianfranco Rota\/Donizetti Opera\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 On 14 November, Riccardo Frizza<\/strong> will open the 2025 edition of Donizetti Opera with Caterina Cornaro<\/em><\/strong>, the composer\u2019s last major Italian opera, presented in a new production by Francesco Micheli and co-produced with the Teatro Real Madrid.

\u00abI consider it to be an excellent artistic choice (and an honour for me), to inaugurate the 2025 Donizetti Opera with Caterina Cornaro<\/em>, at last in the critical edition by Eleonora Di Cintio for Casa Ricordi, which has consolidated the magnetism and significance of Donizetti’s last great opera, finally restored to the catalogue of Bergamo’s great composer in a form as close as possible to his original intentions,\u00bb says Maestro Frizza, who this year assumed the dual role of Musical and Artistic Director at the Bergamo festival.<\/strong> \u00abCleansed of long-standing, arbitrary revisions, Caterina Cornaro<\/em> is now Donizetti’s ‘fourth queen’, worthy of the other three but different from them in terms of theatrical and musical structure. The opera has the undisputed appeal of an artistic testament and, as such, bears prominent signs of Donizetti’s maturity as a composer, while also contemplating a more modern style: both these qualities are apparent in the refined orchestral composition, imposing choruses, and the pure lyric accomplishment that breathes life into arias and duets; and in the unfamiliar finale which changes the opera\u2019s viewpoint, no longer conventional as in the censored version staged in Naples, but immensely powerful through the central role that Donizetti accorded Caterina, the queen (and woman), giving her a moving yet noble epilogue. It was the final message from the genius, intense and not to be missed.\u00bb

The premiere will be preceded by the Under30 Preview on 11 November, with additional performances on 22 and 30 November, all at Teatro Donizetti.

\u00abReputo un\u2019eccellente scelta artistica (e un onore per me), inaugurare il Donizetti Opera 2025 con Caterina Cornaro<\/em>, nell\u2019edizione critica che \u00e8 stata curata da Eleonora Di Cintio per Casa Ricordi e che ci ha confermato il fascino e l\u2019importanza dell\u2019ultima grande opera di Donizetti, finalmente riconsegnata al catalogo del Bergamasco nella forma pi\u00f9 vicina alle sue prime intenzioni \u2013 dichiara il Maestro Frizza che da quest\u2019anno ricopre il doppio incarico di direttore musicale e artistico del festival bergamasco<\/strong>. Caterina Cornaro<\/em>, ripulita dalle correzioni arbitrarie della tradizione, \u00e8 ora la \u201cquarta regina\u201d di Donizetti, degna delle altre tre ma diversa da esse per sintassi teatrale e musicale. L\u2019opera ha il fascino indiscusso del testamento artistico e come tale reca i segni pi\u00f9 alti della maturit\u00e0 compositiva di Donizetti ma anche uno sguardo al linguaggio pi\u00f9 moderno: entrambe le qualit\u00e0 emergono nella raffinata scrittura orchestrale, nei cori imponenti, nel compiuto respiro lirico che d\u00e0 vita ad arie e duetti. E nel finale inedito che cambia la prospettiva dell\u2019opera, non pi\u00f9 convenzionale come nella versione censurata andata in scena a Napoli, ma potentissima nella centralit\u00e0 che Donizetti volle dare alla regina (e alla donna) Caterina, regalandole un epilogo emozionante ma anche nobile. Fu l\u2019ultima parola del Genio, intensa e imperdibile\u00bb.

La prima sar\u00e0 preceduta dall\u2019Anteprima Under30 domani 11 novembre, mentre lo spettacolo sar\u00e0 replicato il 22 e 30 novembre<\/strong> sempre al Teatro Donizetti.
