The season opens with Cherubini\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressroom.cloud\/?mailpoet_router&amp;endpoint=track&amp;action=click&amp;data=WyIxMTY3IiwiMzF2MDNsZTBsazZjYzRjNGNvd29va29jb2tjZ2tvNDgiLCIyMTUiLCI4YzQ0Y2Y3Y2VjMGUiLGZhbHNlXQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Medea<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, running from 6th to 16th December, followed by Morricone\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressroom.cloud\/?mailpoet_router&amp;endpoint=track&amp;action=click&amp;data=WyIxMTY3IiwiMzF2MDNsZTBsazZjYzRjNGNvd29va29jb2tjZ2tvNDgiLCIyMTUiLCIxNWZiODNmNmZiNTEiLGZhbHNlXQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Partenope<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on 12th and 14th December.<br><br><br><strong>Regarding these events, the Maestro stated:<\/strong><br><br>\u00abI&#8217;m ending my opera year conducting not one, but two firsts for the Teatro di San Carlo. On 6th December, the prestigious Neapolitan theatre is opening its new season with an opera that revolves around a legend and which, for well-known historical reasons, has itself become a legend, particularly since its staging in the latter half of the 20th century, when Maria Callas became to all effects the embodiment of Cherubini&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>\u00a0(for that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re referring to) and a vocal, interpretative and social sensation. Amazingly,\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>\u00a0has never been performed at the Teatro San CarIo, and it&#8217;s for this reason that I am honoured to be breaking with convention, working on something of historical significance for this theatre that I love so much and where, during the season we&#8217;re about to open, I will have the opportunity to bring many operatic and symphonic projects to fruition. In between performances of\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>, Teatro San Carlo is also staging the world premiere of\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>, the only opera by Ennio Morricone. Composed thirty years ago to a libretto by Guido Barbieri and Sandro Cappelletto,\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>, like a true deity, had to face a series of vicissitudes before obtaining redress. The source of this production is &#8216;Napoli millenaria&#8217;, the celebration of the 2500th anniversary of the founding of the city of Neapolis, which is reinterpreting with thousands of broad-ranging events the origin of the legend, the link between legend and history, and the spirit that has formed the identity of one of the most important cities in the world and one of the driving forces of western civilisation over a period spanning 2500 years. And so, it seems to me a fitting choice to celebrate these two legends: Cherubini&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>, which brought elegance and magnificent music to classical opera just over two hundred years ago, and Morricone&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>, which retraces the foundational pathways of the legend with a musical sensitivity that is absolutely original. Il 6 dicembre il Massimo napoletano apre la nuova stagione mettendo in scena un\u2019opera che ruota attorno a un mito e che, per i motivi storici noti a tutti, \u00e8 diventata essa stessa un mito, specie in relazione alle vicende rappresentative della seconda met\u00e0 del Novecento quando la\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>\u00a0di Cherubini \u2013 di questa parliamo \u2013 si \u00e8 praticamente incarnata in Maria Callas, diventando leggenda vocale, interpretativa e sociale. Incredibilmente,\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>\u00a0non \u00e8 stata mai rappresentata al Teatro San Carlo, per questo sono onorato di rompere un tab\u00f9 facendo qualcosa di storicamente importante per questo teatro che amo profondamente e nel quale nella stagione che stiamo per inaugurare avr\u00f2 modo di realizzare molti progetti operistici e sinfonici.Nel corso delle repliche di\u00a0<em>Medea<\/em>, il San Carlo mette in scena in prima mondiale\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>, unica opera di Ennio Morricone. Scritta trent\u2019anni fa su libretto di Guido Barbieri e Sandro Cappelletto,\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>, come una vera divinit\u00e0, ha dovuto affrontare varie peripezie prima di ottenere il suo riscatto. Questo \u00e8 arrivato da \u201cNapoli millenaria\u201d, il contenitore delle celebrazioni del 2500\u00b0 anniversario della fondazione di Neapolis che sta riproponendo con migliaia di eventi diffusi l\u2019origine del mito, il collante tra leggenda e storia, l\u2019anima che da 2500 anni ha costruito l\u2019identit\u00e0 di una delle citt\u00e0 pi\u00f9 importanti del mondo oltre che uno dei motori della civilt\u00e0 occidentale. \u00c8 cos\u00ec trovo felice la scelta di celebrare i due miti,\u00a0<em>la Medea<\/em>\u00a0di Cherubini che poco pi\u00f9 di due secoli fa diede stile e musica meravigliosa al Classicismo operistico e la\u00a0<em>Partenope<\/em>\u00a0di Morricone che ripercorre le strade fondanti della leggenda con sensibilit\u00e0 musicale di assoluta originalit\u00e0.
