His projects stand as a rigorous and bold dialogue between different eras, adding a new mark to the palimpsest of history without denying those that came before.

Supported by original materials from the Andrea Bruno Archive (sketchbooks, study maquettes, technical working drawings, and competition boards), the exhibition itinerary is divided into two macro-thematic areas:

The Matter of the Real: A close-up look at major structural interventions in Piedmont: the spatial redefinition of the Castello di Rivoli (1961-1999), the functional adaptive reuse of the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences (a Noah’s Ark designed around the skeleton of a 19th-century whale), and the Underground Hall (*Sala Ipogea*) of Palazzo Carignano (1980-1996). The latter—a steel and concrete structure that remains closed to the public—is examined as a critical device capable of revealing Guarini’s historic foundations.
The Matter of the Possible: A constellation of visions that remained on paper, reflecting Bruno’s provocative approach to the city: the underground competition entry for Piazzale Valdo Fusi; the surreal hypothesis of display cases with stuffed animals projecting from the windows of the ancient San Giovanni Hospital; the conversion plan for the historic farms of Stupinigi; and the bold underground conference hall designed to be excavated within the original moat of Palazzo Madama.

The exhibition also dedicates space to the extreme case of the high-tech display case designed for the Holy Shroud (1993–1997) and placed at the center of Guarino Guarini’s dome. During the devastating 1997 fire, firefighters were forced to smash it with sledgehammers to rescue the sacred cloth—perfectly embodying the concept of sacrificing building matter.

—

Opening & Events

On June 6 at 10:00 AM, the exhibition will open to the public on the occasion of Open House Torino.

At 6:00 PM, the book launch for “Il progetto del limite.
