| 🇬🇧 Benedetta Torre, one of the most captivating Mozart singers of her generation, makes her debut in China as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, on stage at Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from 15th to 20th July.Her Susanna, already acclaimed in Italy’s most renowned opera houses like La Scala and Rome Opera, has won over both audiences and critics who describe her as “strong-willed, playfully clever, overflowing with femininity and the true driving force of the story.” “I’m thrilled to return to Susanna, a role that’s close to my heart,” said Benedetta ahead of opening night. “This production has a distinctly Italian feel, from Giuliano Spinelli’s set design inspired by Frigerio to the costumes originally created by Squarciapino and reimagined here by Irene Monti. Strehler’s legacy is also clearly present, further developed by Alessandra Panzavolta, who revives José Luis Castro’s original staging. I’ll be sharing the stage with seasoned Mozart colleagues I’ve had the pleasure of working with before, and I’m sure this Beijing adventure will be unforgettable artistically and as a cultural and life experience. What can I say about Susanna, except that she’s a role I love because it requires both straightforwardness and liveliness in the singing as well as lyrical expression. In terms of acting, it demands great involvement and realism since she is the driving force behind the stage action from the beginning to the end of the opera. In short, it’s a challenging role in every respect — truly exciting for me as a genuine singing-actress, which is exactly what I enjoy doing.” The performance on 19th July will be livestreamed, marking a historic moment as it will be the first opera ever to be streamed from the NCPA. 📺 More information Following the Beijing run, Le nozze di Figaro will move to the Shaanxi Opera House in Xi’an, with performances scheduled for 8th and 10th August. |

| 🇮🇹 Benedetta Torre, tra le voci mozartiane più interessanti della sua generazione, debutta in Cina nei panni di Susanna ne Le nozze di Figaro in scena al National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) di Pechino dal 15 al 20 luglio. La sua Susanna, già acclamata nei più prestigiosi teatri italiani, tra cui La Scala di Milano e il Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, ha conquistato pubblico e critica che la descrivono come “volitiva, simpaticamente furba, dalla femminilità strabordante, vero motore della vicenda”. «Sono felice di tornare a Susanna, un ruolo del cuore – ha dichiarato Benedetta alla vigilia della prima – in una produzione che certamente ha un sapore molto italiano, vista l’ispirazione estetica sia alle scene di Frigerio da parte di Giuliano Spinelli, sia ai costumi della Squarciapino qui ideati da Irene Monti. Chiara è poi l’eredità a livello registico lasciata da Strehler, qui sviluppata da Alessandra Panzavolta che riprende il primo allestimento di José Luis Castro. Non da ultimo sarò affiancata da esperti colleghi mozartiani con i quali ho già avuto il piacere di lavorare e che ritrovo in questa avventura pechinese, che sarà senza dubbio un ricordo indelebile sia a livello artistico che di esperienza culturale e di vita. Che dire di Susanna, se non che è un ruolo che amo perché richiede nel canto sia schiettezza e vivacità ma anche lirismo, mentre nella recitazione vuole grande partecipazione e realismo perché rappresenta il meccanismo principale dell’azione scenica dall’inizio alla fine dell’opera. Insomma, un bell’impegno sotto tutti i punti di vista, davvero avvincente per me, da vera cantante-attrice, che è proprio quello che mi piace fare».
