| 🇬🇧 Enrico Onofri returns to conduct the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), an ensemble that brings together the finest young talents in early music from Europe’s leading music academies. Two concerts in Germany are scheduled, offering audiences a musical journey through some of the most important cultural centres of Baroque Europe, featuring the following works: Henry Purcell – The Fairy Queen SuiteGeorg Philipp Telemann – Suite Burlesque de Quixotte, TWV 55:G10Charles Avison – Concerto grosso No. 5 in D minor, after Domenico ScarlattiJean-Philippe Rameau – Les Indes galantes SuiteJohann Sebastian Bach – Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068 The first concert will take place on 4th September at Michaelstein Monastery, a site with a long-standing connection to music. Founded in the 1960s as a centre for musical education and research, it is now home to the Saxony-Anhalt Music Academy and is widely recognised for its commitment to historically informed performance. Its concert season regularly features both early and contemporary music, often the result of in-house musicological research or masterclasses.The second concert opens the Silbermann Days 2025 on 5th September in Chemnitz, hosted for the first time in the remarkable industrial setting of the Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf Railway Museum. Located along the former Dresden–Chemnitz–Plauen railway line, the former locomotive shed provides a unique backdrop where Saxony’s industrial heritage meets the splendour of Baroque music. The event also connects with Chemnitz’s title as European Capital of Culture 2025 and musically interprets its theme: C the Unseen. «EUBO, whose activity was abruptly halted by Brexit due to its UK base and origins, was revived in 2023 through a handover of management from the United Kingdom to Italy,» explains Maestro Onofri. «A prestigious institution with which I’ve been involved many times in the past as tutor and conductor, EUBO has, for forty years, served as a bridge between education and professional life – selecting young talents from across the European Union each year. Every season, they gather in different corners of the continent to work alongside leading performers in the field of historical performance. This year, as in 2023 when EUBO relaunched, I’ve been entrusted with shaping a programme that spans France, England, Italy and Germany – from Purcell to Bach. It’s a meaningful event at a challenging time for European identity and a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly – in the hope of helping young musicians understand that, just as there are no fixed borders in art but only fortunate intersections, so too should it be in life. We must be ambassadors of those shared values that Europe has cultivated over the centuries, values which we ought to offer ourselves, and the world, as a response to the darker legacy that has so often accompanied them.» |

| 🇮🇹 Enrico Onofri torna a dirigere la European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), compagine che riunisce i migliori giovani talenti della musica antica provenienti dalle accademie musicali europee. In programma due concerti in Germania che propongono al pubblico un viaggio attraverso i principali centri musicali dell’Europa barocca con queste opere: Henry Purcell – The Fairy Queen Suite Georg Philipp Telemann – Suite Burlesque de Quixotte, TWV 55:G10 Charles Avison – Concerto grosso n. 5 in re minore, da Domenico Scarlatti Jean-Philippe Rameau – Les Indes galantes Suite Johann Sebastian Bach – Suite per orchestra n. 3 in re maggiore, BWV 1068 Il primo concerto si terrà il 4 settembre al Monastero di Michaelstein, luogo storicamente legato alla musica. Fondato negli anni ’60 come centro di educazione e ricerca musicale, ospita oggi l’Accademia Musicale della Sassonia-Anhalt ed è riconosciuto per il suo impegno nella prassi esecutiva storicamente informata. La sua stagione concertistica propone regolarmente musica antica e contemporanea, spesso frutto di ricerche musicologiche interne o di masterclass.Il secondo concerto inaugurerà le Silbermann-Tage 2025 il 5 settembre a Chemnitz, ospitate per la prima volta nella straordinaria sede industriale del Museo Ferroviario di Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf. Situato lungo l’ex linea ferroviaria Dresda–Chemnitz–Plauen, l’ex rimessa per locomotive offre un contesto unico in cui il patrimonio industriale sassone incontra lo splendore della musica barocca. L’evento si collega inoltre a Chemnitz Capitale Europea della Cultura 2025 e ne interpreta musicalmente il motto: C the Unseen. «La EUBO, dopo un arresto causato dalla Brexit che ne troncò le attività per via della sua sede ed origine inglese, è risorta nel 2023 grazie ad un passaggio di gestione tra Regno Unito e Italia – dichiara il Maestro Onofri. Prestigiosa istituzione della quale sono stato tutor e direttore numerose volte in passato, essa da quarant’anni serve da ponte tra il mondo della formazione e la professione, riunendo giovani talenti accuratamente selezionati ogni anno in tutta l’Unione Europea. Ad ogni stagione, essi si ritrovano in luoghi diversi del nostro continente per confrontarsi con interpreti di fama della “historical performance”. Quest’anno, così come alla sua riapertura nel ’23, tocca a me curare un programma che attraversa Francia, Inghilterra, Italia e Germania, da Purcell a Bach. Un evento significativo in questo momento difficile per l’identità europea e una responsabilità di cui mi faccio volentieri carico, nel tentativo di far comprendere ai giovani che – come non vi sono confini netti nell’arte, ma solo fortunate intersezioni, così dovrebbe essere nelle nostre vite –, facendoci latori di quei valori comuni dei quali l’Europa è stata madre nei secoli e che oggi dovremmo offrire a noi stessi e al mondo quale riscatto per la controparte oscura e terribile che li ha accompagnati». |
