| 🇬🇧 Annalisa Stroppa returns to the role of Preziosilla, for the third time in her career, in a new and highly anticipated production that also marks her debut at the Opernhaus Zürich under Maestro Gianandrea Noseda. Just days ahead of the November 2 premiere, Annalisa made the following statement to the international press:»I have sung as Preziosilla in two important productions, at the Teatro del Maggio conducted by Zubin Mehta in 2021, and at the Festival Verdi, Parma, under the baton of Roberto Abbado in 2022, and have explored the psyche of this figure, such an unusual character from the Verdi collection, who brings the cry ‘Hurrah for the war!’ back to the theatre, years after Les Vêpres Siciliennes. Could Verdi entrust this twenty-year-old, ‘coquettish’ gitane with the task of awakening the patriotic conscience ‘against the Germans’, as Preziosilla sings in the scene with her song in the second act? Verdi was meticulous and genial in his attention to each individual theatrical moment, so the role of Preziosilla, her ability to recruit soldiers, her rousing incitement which also promises the pleasures of love, in a certain sense amplify and complicate our interpretation of this choral, sombre opera, constructed around the eternal theme of destiny, which finds its resolution in Verdi through the reconciliatory theme of redemption. In this staging, which we’re rehearsing at the Opernhaus Zürich, the horror of war stands out starkly, in line with our modern sensitivities that condemn it and the rise of increasingly ruthless warmongers. In that sense, Valentina Carrasco’s stage direction gives assurance of the search for opera’s deepest meaning.» La Forza del Destino will run from 2nd November to 21st December with ten performances in total, almost all of which are already sold out. | 🇮🇹 Annalisa Stroppa torna a interpretare il ruolo di Preziosilla, per la terza volta nella sua carriera, in un nuovo e attesissimo allestimento che segna anche il suo debutto all’Opernhaus Zürich sotto la direzione del Maestro Gianandrea Noseda. Alla vigilia della prima del 2 novembre, Annalisa ha rilasciato questa dichiarazione alla stampa internazionale:«Sono stata Preziosilla in due produzioni importanti – al Teatro del Maggio sotto la direzione di Zubin Mehta nel 2021 e al Festival Verdi di Parma sotto la bacchetta di Roberto Abbado nel 2022 – e ho approfondito la psicologia di questo personaggio così insolito nella galleria verdiana che, a distanza di anni da Les Vêpres Siciliennes, riporta in teatro il grido «viva la guerra!». Poteva Verdi affidare ad una gitana di venti anni, “civetta”, il compito di risvegliare una coscienza patriottica «contro al tedesco» come intona Preziosilla nella scena con canzone del secondo atto? Verdi curava maniacalmente e genialmente ogni momento della drammaturgia, quindi il ruolo di Preziosilla, la sua capacità di reclutatrice di soldati, il suo abile incitamento che promette anche le gioie dell’amore, per certi versi amplifica e rende ancora più complessa la lettura di quest’opera corale, cupa, costruita sul tema eterno del destino e risolta in Verdi con quello rappacificatore della redenzione. Nella messa in scena che stiamo provando alla Opernhaus Zürich risalta forte l’orrore per le guerre, in linea con la moderna sensibilità che le condanna unitamente ai sempre più spietati guerrafondai. La regia di Valentina Carrasco è, in tal senso, garanzia di ricerca del significato più profondo dell’opera».
