| Riccardo Frizza returns to the Teatro San Carlo with Verdi’s Nabucco, «one of the last and most shining examples of Belcanto style» 18, 22, 25, 28 and 31 January |
| 🇬🇧 The press conference presenting Nabucco has just concluded at the Teatro San Carlo. Verdi’s opera – which will be performed on 18, 22, 25, 28 and 31 January – comes to Naples in the 2019 production created by Andreas Homoki for the Opernhaus Zürich. The staging offers an intense and contemporary interpretation of the work. Riccardo Frizza conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro San Carlo, the latter prepared by Fabrizio Cassi. This marks the Maestro’s third major engagement in the Neapolitan opera season in little over a month, following the successful opening production of Medea and of Partenope. On this occasion, Frizza shared his perspective on the opera with the press: «Nabucco, with its genesis romanticised by Verdi himself, its success on stage ever since its very first performance and its becoming, following the Unity of Italy, opera of the Risorgimento, has been fortunate for several often contradictory reasons. Pure Verdi from the outset, it also carries historical veracity, with its historiographic reconstructions that have fired the minds of the finest academics. I conducted it for the first time at the Opera Carlo Felice in Genoa, far back in 2004, and returned to it in 2015 for the inauguration of the Arena Opera Festival. Now I’m preparing to conduct this work again at the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, trusting – as decade follows decade, in a process of natural maturation and of familiarity with Verdi born of love – that I will offer it to the audience it as I see it: one of the last and most shining examples of Belcanto style.» |

| 🇮🇹 Si è appena conclusa al Teatro San Carlo la conferenza stampa di presentazione di Nabucco. Il titolo verdiano – in scena il 18, 22, 25, 28 e 31 gennaio – viene presentato a Napoli con l’allestimento firmato nel 2019 da Andreas Homoki all’Opernhaus di Zurigo. La produzione restituisce una visione intensa e contemporanea all’opera. Riccardo Frizza dirige l’Orchestra e il Coro del San Carlo preparato da Fabrizio Cassi. Il Maestro è al suo terzo grande appuntamento nella stagione operistica napoletana in poco più di un mese, dopo i successi della Medea inaugurale e di Partenope. A questo proposito, Frizza ha riassunto per la stampa la sua visione: «Nabucco, con la sua genesi romanzata dallo stesso Verdi, il successo in scena a partire dalla prima rappresentazione e la trasformazione in “opera risorgimentale” ad unità d’Italia avvenuta, è opera fortunata per motivi diversi, spesso contrastanti, “verdiana” sin dal concepimento, ma anche per verità storica ovvero ricostruzioni storiografiche che hanno appassionato fior di studiosi. L’ho diretta per la prima volta all’Opera Carlo Felice di Genova nel lontano 2004 e l’ho ripresa nel 2015 inaugurando l’Arena Opera Festival. Ora mi appresso a dirigerla al Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, confidando – di decennio in decennio, con la naturale maturazione e un’amorosa consuetudine verdiana – di porgerla così come la sento, uno degli ultimi e più fulgidi esempi di stile belcantistico». |
