| 🇬🇧 Giulio Arnofi makes his debut on the podium of the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in two concerts on Friday 23rd January and Saturday 24th January at the Politeama Garibaldi in Palermo. The programme features works by Stravinsky, Mendelssohn and Dvořák which“speaks of the historical twentieth century, but also of Classicism and Romanticism, where musical forms, styles, harmonies, rhythms and melodies show how the past, whether recent or distant, is threaded by a line that stitches history together and brings different eras closer, creating aesthetic cycles of great interest”, as explained by Maestro Arnofi. The concert opens with Danses concertantes by Stravinsky, composed during his exile in the United States following the dictatorship and hostile climate of the Soviet Union. It is a work rich in modernity, yet tinged with a sense of nostalgia for the Europe he had left behind. This is followed by Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyageouverture which takes us back, almost nostalgically, to the highest peaks of musical history, steeped in literary culture. The programme concludes withDvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” written during his time in the United States, where he served as director of the New York National Conservatory of Music. Strongly influenced by its American surroundings, the Czech composer’s final symphony unfolds with a rich variety of ideas, themes and interwoven elements. From the meeting of two cultures emerged one of the most celebrated and surprising symphonic works of the late nineteenth century. |

| 🇮🇹 Giulio Arnofi è atteso per il debutto sul podio dell’Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in due concerti, venerdì 23 gennaio e sabato 24 gennaio al Politeama Garibaldi di Palermo. In programma tre pagine firmate da Stravinskij, Mendelssohn e Dvořák che parlano di «Novecento storico, ma anche di Classicismo e Romanticismo, dove le forme musicali, gli stili, le armonie, i ritmi e le melodie ci confermano come il passato, recente o remoto, sia attraversato da un filo che cuce la storia e riavvicina le epoche, creando ciclicità estetiche di estremo interesse», commenta il Maestro Arnofi. Il concerto si apre con Danses concertantes di Stravinskij, composte durante il suo esilio negli Stati Uniti a seguito della dittatura e del clima ostile dell’Unione Sovietica: un brano ricco di modernità ma anche di una sorta di «nostalgia» per tutto quello che era stata l’Europa. Segue l’ouverture Calma di mare e viaggio felice di Mendelssohn che riporta quasi “nostalgicamente” alle vette più alte della storia musicale, intrise di cultura letteraria. Si conclude con la Sinfonia n. 9 “Dal Nuovo Mondo” di Dvořák, composta anch’essa negli Stati Uniti negli anni in cui l’autore diresse il National Conservatory of Music di New York e fortemente influenzata dall’ambiente americano. Di qui la ricchezza di idee, di temi e di intrecci che caratterizza l’ultima sinfonia del compositore ceco: dall’incontro di due civiltà è scaturita una delle pagine sinfoniche più celebri e sorprendenti della fine dell’Ottocento. |
