| 🇬🇧 Luciano Ganci opens his new season at the Wiener Staatsoper, a theatre where he is now very much at home. He made his debut there in 2021 as Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur, and has since returned to the Viennese stage as Andrea Chénier, Pinkerton and Cavaradossi. Five years after that debut, the tenor now returns to the role of the Count of Saxony in a prestigious production conducted by Marco Armiliato and directed by Sir David McVicar. Ganci is joined by a stellar cast, including Ermonela Jaho as Adriana, Elīna Garanča as the Princess de Bouillon and Roberto Frontali as Michonnet. Maurizio is a character to whom Luciano Ganci feels particularly close: «I love this role and this work, full of melodies that I like to call ‘tender’, because they strike a chord with me in a way that is different from other operas, perhaps because they encompass some special moments in my life”, says the tenor. “This role, Maurizio di Sassonia, is incredible: challenging but very interesting from an interpretative and vocal perspective. I’m overjoyed to have this opportunity to interpret it again in such a lovely production with a stellar conductor and colleagues. To be doing so at the Wiener Staatsoper, where I made my debut five years ago when I jumped in to perform in this role, brings added significance. This time, though, I’ll be taking things more calmly». And it is precisely the complexity of the character that Ganci sees as one of the most fascinating aspects of the role: «I think Maurizio di Sassonia is like a gambler who draws close to many, perhaps too many, gaming tables and who we come to see in the course of events as a passionate lover, a brilliant socialite, then impetuous and, finally, almost melancholy. Each facet of his character is clearly defined in his three arias and two duets. It’s interesting to see how his character changes in his relationships with Adriana, with the Princess and with everyone else. He plays, risks, gambles and eventually loses, but he doesn’t give up: he is a man who fails to be in full command of his feelings, despite being used to commanding armies, and so becomes a victim of those same intense, contradictory feelings», says Ganci. Four performances are scheduled, on 5, 8, 11 and 14 September, with the opening night broadcast live on Radio Ö1 starting from 7pm. |
| 🇮🇹 Luciano Ganci inaugura la sua nuova stagione alla Wiener Staatsoper, teatro nel quale è ormai di casa. Qui ha debuttato nel 2021 come Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur, tornando poi a calcare il palcoscenico viennese nei panni di Andrea Chénier, Pinkerton e Cavaradossi. A cinque anni da quel debutto, il tenore torna ora a vestire i panni del Conte di Sassonia in una produzione di lusso, con la direzione di Marco Armiliato e la regia di Sir David McVicar. Al fianco di Ganci, un cast di primo piano che vede Ermonela Jaho nel ruolo di Adriana, Elīna Garanča in quello della Principessa di Bouillon e Roberto Frontali come Michonnet. Maurizio è un personaggio al quale Luciano Ganci è profondamente legato: «Amo questo ruolo e questo titolo, pieno di melodie che mi piace definire affettuose, perché mi toccano corde dell’anima diverse rispetto ad altre opere, forse perché in esse è conservato qualche momento particolare della mia vita», dichiara il tenore. «Il ruolo di Maurizio di Sassonia è stupendo, impegnativo, ma molto interessante, sia sul piano interpretativo che vocale. Avere l’occasione di tornare a interpretarlo in un allestimento così bello, assieme a un direttore e a colleghi stellari, è per me motivo di grande gioia. Farlo poi alla Wiener Staatsoper, dove cinque anni fa debuttai proprio con questo titolo, in un jump in, rende tutto ancora più importante. Ma stavolta lo faccio con calma». Ed è proprio nella complessità del personaggio che Ganci individua una delle chiavi di lettura più interessanti: «Maurizio di Sassonia è, secondo me, paragonabile a un giocatore d’azzardo che frequenta tanti, forse troppi, tavoli e che, nel corso della vicenda, impariamo a conoscere come amante appassionato, uomo mondano e brillante, poi impetuoso e infine quasi malinconico. Ogni sfaccettatura del personaggio è ben definita nelle tre arie e nei duetti a lui affidati. È interessante vedere come cambi il suo carattere nei rapporti con Adriana, con la Principessa e con tutti gli altri. Gioca, rischia, azzarda e alla fine perde, ma non si arrende: è un uomo che non riesce completamente a governare ciò che prova, nonostante sia abituato a guidare eserciti, diventando così vittima dei suoi stessi sentimenti, tanto intensi quanto contrastanti», afferma Ganci. Sono quattro le recite in programma, il 5, 8, 11 e 14 settembre, con la prima trasmessa in diretta da Radio Ö1 a partire dalle 19. |
