Nel 2019/20 Carlo Goldstein ha diretto l’apertura della stagione alla Sydney Opera House con La Bohème e una nuova produzione di Guglielmo Tell nel circuito dei teatri di Operalombardia e al Teatro Verdi di Pisa. Nelle prossime stagioni farà il suo debutto come direttore ospite alla BBC Philharmonic, ritornerà al Teatro Massimo di Palermo e all’Opera di Sydney e dirigerà una nuova produzione de L’elisir d’amore con la Haifa Symphony.

Nel 2018 Carlo Goldstein ha fatto il suo debutto alla Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden (con lavori di Schönberg, Weber e Mendelssohn), all’Opera di Sydney con Carmen e al Festival Internazionale dell’Opera di Daegu in Corea con Turandot. Dopo un concerto sinfonico con lavori di Cresta, Prokof’ev, Mahler e Rota Goldstein è stato reinvitato al Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari per una nuova produzione di La Traviata. Dal 2014 è stato regolarmente invitato in Corea, recentemente al Seoul Arts Center e al Busan Arts Center per Madama Butterfly e La Traviata e all’Opera di Daegu per I Pagliacci.

In stagioni recenti ha diretto in Italia al Teatro La Fenice di Venezia e nei teatri di Brescia, Como, Cremona, Livorno, Lucca, Pavia, Pisa e Reggio Emilia lavori quali Adriana Lecouvreur, Un ballo in Maschera, La Bohème, Carmen, Così fan tutte, Turandot e inoltre I Pagliacci al festival estivo del Teatro Sociale di Como – produzione premiata con il prestigioso Premio Abbiati. Al Festival della Valle d’Itria Goldstein ha diretto la prima mondiale di L’Orfeo – Immagini di una lontananza di Daniela Terranova, basato su L’Orfeo di Luigi Rossi del 1642.

Oltre a concerti sinfonici in Italia, ad esempio con l’Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, è stato invitato a dirigere orchestre in Israele e in Russia, tra cui la St. Petersburg State Symphony e la Hermitage Symphony Orchestra.

Oltre alla formazione musicale (al Mozarteum di Salisburgo e al Royal College of Music di Londra) Goldstein si è laureato in Filosofia (Estetica) all’Università di Milano e ha pubblicato diversi articoli di argomento estetologico e di storia della musica. Nel 2009 Carlo Goldstein ha vinto il primo premio assoluto al Concorso Internazionale di Graz. Uno speciale che lo ritrae è stato prodotto nella serie Notevoli sul canale Classica in onda su Sky. Omer Meir-Wellber aveva già scoperto il talento straordinario di Goldstein e ne aveva fatto il suo assistente a Valencia e a Vienna. Tutt’oggi i due artisti collaborano regolarmente.

Carlo Goldstein studia approfonditamente le partiture che dirige. Nel suo lavoro musicale, più importanti delle tradizioni interpretative sono per lui la coerenza e la vitalità espressiva. Le sue interpretazioni sono ricche di calore e sensibilità e trasmettono un fascino speciale senza ricorrere ad alcuna retorica. Dirige solitamente a memoria, portando cantanti e orchestra per mano con brillante vitalità. Oltre alla vasta esperienza nel teatro d’opera italiano, Goldstein ha una profonda conoscenza del repertorio sinfonico anche più remoto. Quale sostenitore della musica contemporanea, Goldstein ha diretto numerose prime esecuzioni assolute di compositori italiani e internazionali, collaborando spesso con MDI ensemble in vari contesti tra i quali il Festival di Milano Musica.

Highlights of the 2019/20 season were the season opening at the Sydney Opera with La Bohème and a new production of Guglielmo Tell at the theatres of the OperaLombardia network and at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. In the coming seasons Goldstein will make his debut as guest conductor with the BBC Philharmonic, returning to Teatro Massimo Palermo and Sydney Opera, and conducting a new production of L’elisir d’amore with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra

After a symphony concert with works by Cresta, Prokofiev, Mahler and Rota Goldstein was re-invited to the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari for a new production of La Traviata. In recent seasons Goldstein has conducted in Italy at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and at the opera houses of Brescia, Como, Cremona, Livorno, Lucca, Pavia, Pisa and Reggio Emilia works such as Adriana Lecouvreur, Un ballo in maschera, La Bohème, Carmen, Così fan tutte, Turandot as well as Pagliacci at the summer festival of the Teatro Sociale di Como – a production that was awarded the prestigious Abbiati Prize. At the Festival della Valle d’Itria Goldstein conducted the world premiere of L’Orfeo. Immagini di una lontananza by Daniela Terranova, based on Luigi Rossi’s L’Orfeo from 1642.

In addition to symphony concerts in Italy, e.g. with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale, he has also been invited to conduct orchestras in Israel and Russia, where he conducted the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and the Hermitage Symphony Orchestra, among others.

In addition to his musical education (e.g. at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Royal College of Music London) Goldstein obtained a degree in philosophy (aesthetics) from the University of Milan. He has published several articles on aesthetics and music history. In 2009 Carlo Goldstein was awarded first prize at the International Conductors’ Competition in Graz. A portrait of him was produced in the Notevoli series of the Classica channel and broadcast on Sky Italia. Omer Meir- Wellber discovered Goldstein as an extraordinary talent and initially made him his assistant in Valencia and Vienna. Today, the two artists are collaborating on a regular basis.

Carlo Goldstein researches the works he conducts very thoroughly. In musical realisation, liveliness and coherence are more important to him than interpretational traditions. His interpretations are full of warmth and sensitivity and develop their special charm without false grandeur. He usually conducts operas by heart, carrying his singers on his hands and conducting them and the orchestra with sparkling vitality. Beyond being an adept Italian opera conductor, Goldstein has a profound knowledge of the – even remote – symphonic repertoire. And as an advocate of contemporary music, he has conducted numerous premieres of works by Italian and international composers, including at the Milano Musica Festival and with the MDI Ensemble.
